A final update – After a great week, our students came home the Champions in Cage Soccer, Football, Indoor Football, Petanque, Darts, and Boys Volleyball. Overall, placing third amongst the schools attending! Students had a wonderful time and made lots of new friends.
A big congratulations to our students and wider school community for all the funds raised for the 40 Hour Famine. Mission Heights Junior College raised a total of $11,820.12!
Day 3/4 update – Students had an amazing time on the overnight and a grand adventure caving today. There has been light rain down in Tongariro but nothing to hamper the tramping and caving. Students and staff will be leaving roughly at 2.30pm tomorrow to make the journey back to Auckland, with an estimated arrival time at MHJC of 7.30pm Friday.
Sports Camp 2021 Day 3 update – Wednesday was an excellent day for students! The weather was beautiful and everyone worked hard across a range of sports. A huge congratulations to Toesh, Rajveer, Udayveer, Dylan, and Puneet for winning the indoor football tournament! What a celebration! Thursday will have students competing in seven semi-finals over the morning with finals this afternoon. Go MHJC Go! Photo is of our winning indoor football team.
Our Junior Girls A Netball team is midway through their season, playing in the Auckland Year 8 A grade on Tuesdays. With 4 weeks to go, the team is sitting second on the table. We wish the team all the best in their upcoming games.
Sports Camp 2021 Tuesday was a full on day for our athletes in Matamata. Students are doing very well in basketball, football, and volleyball and took a win in rugby too. Students are enjoying a range of new sports and won the cage soccer tournament! Congratulations to Luke, Dylan, Nevaeh, Ronak, and Pita for winning that tournament!
Day 2 update. Yesterday, students spent the day near the Tongariro base. They worked through group challenges and team building games in order to prepare themselves for their upcoming overnight trip.
A group of 35 Year 7 and 8 students travelled down to Tōtara Springs in Matamata on Monday for the annual Sports Camp. After a foggy drive down, students and staff had a beautiful clear day to begin their week of sports. Students completed athletics, swimming, and scramball on Day 1. Today is their first full day with 18 sports in action. More updates to come.
OPC 2021 Ten students from Years 9 and 10 travelled safely down to the Central Plateau on Sunday for a week of outdoor adventures at Hillary Outdoor’s Tongariro Centre. Today, students had a day on the snow, learning all about appropriate gear and how to ‘trek’ safely and effectively. The group has so far experienced stunning winter conditions. More updates to come later in the week.
