A note for our whānau. The East Auckland Talanoa Ako is this Thursday 4th April at 6pm at MHJC. This is a workshop about NCEA and Careers and Vocational Pathways.
This past Thursday was MHJC’s annual 𝐒𝐰𝐢𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐬 and Inter-whānau competition. Students swam exceptionally well and displayed great sportsmanship throughout the day. Congratulations to Maunga/Mountains Whānau for their Swimming Sports win.
Year 10 students in Wai/Water Whānau travelled to Okahu Bay today for the outcome of their SOS Wai World context.
Students rotated through activities which included water testing, science grid observations, and water rescues. The highlight was learning about and participating in Waka Ama. Despite some rain, students and staff had a great day out in the Waitemāta Harbour.
Yesterday was historic for MHJC! Ngā Pou Kahikatea Kapa Haka performed on the Māori Stage at Polyfest. Congratulations to all students and staff involved! A huge achievement for all. MHJC is so proud of you! Below is a recording of their performance. More photos to come.
Our second round of Year 7 Camps are out this week. Maunga/Mountains Whānau and Coast/Takutai Whānau have settled into Camp Adair. Here are some photos from Maunga Whānau’s first day. They are having fabulous weather!
In preparation for Polyfest tomorrow (Thursday), students from Ngā Pou Kahikatea Kapa Haka have been at Umupuia Marae today. A stunning day to be spending on the marae. We wish our students and staff all the best for their performance tomorrow.
An email has been sent to our community informing whānau of school closure dates around the Easter weekend. Please note MHJC will be closed on: Friday 29th March (Good Friday) Monday 1st April (Easter Monday) Tuesday 2nd April School will resume on Wednesday 3rd April.
The last day of term is Friday 12th April and school finishes at 1.05pm.
For the first time in Te Kura Mana Ake (MHJC) history, we will be performing as Ngā Pou Kahikatea Kapa Haka (Ormiston Senior College, Tangaroa College, and MHJC) on Thursday 21st March at 11am on the Māori Stage at Polyfest.
This is an incredible event to attend and support our students. Information about the event is below.
𝐋𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: Manukau Sports Bowl (Entrance via 1 Boundary Rd, Clover Park, Auckland). It is suggested that spectators arrive an hour before the performance to find parking, get through the crowds, and secure a position to watch.
Wai/Water Whānau had a great day yesterday (Thursday) despite the morning rain. Lots of activities were on offer during Day 2 and new friendships were formed. Both Wai Whānau and Ngahere Whānau return from Camp Adair later today.
