Yesterday, Maunga/Mountains Whānau travelled north of Auckland to Te Hāwere-a-maki (Goat Island) as part of their Term 1 learning. Year 9 students in Maunga Whānau have spent the term learning about Wai (Water) Safety.
They had great conditions for their snorkelling experience and a fabulous day!

Polyfest Fundraising Campaign.
MHJC is one of 3 schools who are part of a collaborative Kapa Haka group, Ngā Pou Kahikatea, performing for the first time at Polyfest this year. Ngā Pou Kahikatea has ākonga from MHJC, Ormiston Senior College, and Tangaroa College. This will be the first year students from MHJC and OSC will perform on the Māori stage at Polyfest – the largest Polynesian Performance competition in the world.
As part of their Polyfest campaign, t-shirts will be sold. Orders are open to students, teachers, and whānau with pre-orders and payments only.
The cost of the t-shirts will be: Youth Sizes $25 each. Adult sizes $30 each.
All orders and payments are required BEFORE Tuesday 12th March.
Orders will ONLY be put through if the payment has been received.

The MHJC school community has been invited to Tangaroa College Mauri Ora Market Night on Friday 15th March from 5-8pm. Please see details below.
Last week, our Year 10 Leaders attended their ‘Leadership Day’.
These students play an important role within their Whānau, helping Year 7 students transition into life at MHJC. They will also play a key role on the upcoming Year 7 Camps.
These Year 10 leaders completed activities on Friday morning set up by our Deans before travelling to ‘Adrenaline Forest’ for an afternoon of challenging outdoor activities. A very successful Leadership Day for all involved.

Last week, Year 8 students from Ngahere/Forest Whānau travelled to Goat Island as part of their Kaitiakitanga Context for Term 1. Students explored the Goat Island Marine Discovery Centre and had an opportunity to snorkel through the marine reserve. A valuable learning experience for all! 🐟🦀🐠

MHJC has two counsellors on site who support our ākonga. Counselling in a school setting provides students with an opportunity to explore personal difficulties and concerns and empowers them to make informed decisions as they navigate their journey through school and life generally.
Our counsellors are professionally trained and are members of NZAC (New Zealand Association of Counsellors). They work according to the NZAC Code of Ethics.
A counsellor can help with:
– Processing difficult emotions and experiences
– Improving self worth and confidence
– Helping people to consider different ways to look at the challenges they face
Students can choose to self refer.
Parents are also able to request these referral.

On Wednesday this week, Wai Whānau travelled to the Panmure Lagoon for a ‘Big Splash Day’. Students had a great day out, making new friends and participating in various water activities. The Whānau also took part in a manu competition. What a fantastic day for all!
A reminder about our Student Led Conference Day tomorrow. Students are to stay home unless they have booked an in-person appointment with their Learning Advisor. We are looking forward to these goal setting sessions.
