Congratulations to our Boys Football Team who are the Counties Manukau U15 Champions.
On Wednesday afternoon, they travelled away to play Pukekohe High School. The boys had to focus and alter their play in order to capture the win. Final score was MHJC – 2, Pukekohe High School – 1. Congratulations team! Well done!
𝐓𝐞 𝐀𝐡𝐢 𝐎𝐫𝐚 has been visiting MHJC this week, working with our students, and our students have been amazed!
A reminder that tomorrow (Thursday 10th August) from 4.30-6.30pm, 𝐓𝐞 𝐀𝐡𝐢 𝐎𝐫𝐚 will give an exhibition on our school fields to which ONLY MHJC parents and students are invited owing to Health and Safety considerations.
𝐓𝐞 𝐀𝐡𝐢 𝐎𝐫𝐚 is then holding a community wide event (not connected to MHJC) on Saturday 12th August at Barry Curtis Park from 5.30-8:30 p.m.
𝐓𝐞 𝐀𝐡𝐢 𝐎𝐫𝐚 will be visiting MHJC from the 7th – 11th of August. Te Ahi Ora is a community organisation which promotes safe fire performances. According to Te Ahi Ora this emerging art form is a unique activity, half performing art, half extreme sport. This discipline connects the mind and the body in an incredibly enjoyable manner, while encouraging creativity and self expression. They will be working with a Whānau each day, and on their final day providing a special session for our Māori and Pasifika learners.

MHJC’s first 𝐓𝐞 𝐌𝐨𝐚𝐧𝐚-𝐍𝐮𝐢-𝐚-𝐊𝐢𝐰𝐚 𝐅𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐥 was a huge success!
Thank you to all our students, staff, and the members of our community who came and participated/supported this past Friday. All students who took part and those who looked on had a great time celebrating our Pasifika culture!
This week, 11 students have travelled down to Tongariro National Park to attend Hillary Outdoors. The group arrived safely Sunday night and settled in well. They have since spent a day up on the mountain, experiencing snow! We wish them all the best this week.

Earlier this week, MHJC hosted the annual Student Leaders’ Conference with over fifty student leaders from MHJC, Ormiston Junior College, Albany Junior High School, Rototuna Junior High School and Sancta Maria College.
The delegates presented one of five topics which provided them with a challenge to creatively explore a topic relevant to young New Zealanders and find solutions.
They all enjoyed the day, made valuable connections, and learnt more about the challenges and opportunities this generation faces.
The promotion and use of digital technologies in the classroom, including Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) has aroused a high level of concern in the media with fears that its use could compromise the academic integrity of schools’ learning and assessment programmes. Since the start of the year we have been developing a strategy to address this new phenomenon and sought advice from various sources including the Ministry of Education, NZQA and our policy advisors at Schooldocs. As a result we would like to share with you our response to AI.
At MHJC AI, like other digital tools, will be embraced to support and enhance teaching and learning . As akonga/students engage with these technologies, they are expected and encouraged to demonstrate academic integrity by submitting original work and so uphold the school’s values – pono (integrity), ako (learning to learn) and wānanga (life long learner).
Akonga will learn about the opportunities and challenges associated with using AI technology. The recent advancements and use of AI to enhance student learning will be covered through the fulfillment of ePassport requirements, completing in-class activities, and/or as whānau-based learning which supports the Great Learner Profile.
Kaiako/teachers will be upskilled on the use of AI in the classroom. Their use of AI can further support students’ development of critical thinking and research skills. A focus will be placed on promoting more authentic and relevant learning and assessment opportunities while also providing additional scaffolding, templates and prompts to support learners in all subject areas.
Students are also being informed about the school’s position on AI and the advice comes with a warning which is consistent with current assessment procedures:
If a student is suspected and/or caught submitting AI generated work as their own, they may be asked to reproduce the work either by hand or verbally or submit a similar assessment. Students may also be given a Working Towards for their assessment.

This Friday is MHJC’s first Te Moana-Nui-a-Kiwa Festival.
MHJC would like to invite our Māori and Pasifika parents to join in on the festivities on Friday from 12.30-3pm.
And a reminder for our students to bring money to purchase food.
