A reminder that tomorrow – Tuesday 13 June – all Year 9 students are rostered home as part of the PPTA industrial action. School is on as normal for all other year levels.

You may be aware through media announcements that the PPTA (Post Primary Teachers’ Association) will continue industrial action during Term 2 or until the ongoing collective bargaining is resolved.

On the following days, the Year Levels indicated will be rostered home but there is normal school for other year levels.

Teacher’s Paid Union Meeting – Wednesday 28th June
The MHJC Board has approved the request for members of the PPTA to attend a meeting scheduled for Wednesday 28th June, 2023. Owing to the large number of teachers who will be at the meeting, we are unable to safely continue with normal operations, as a result normal classes will stop at 12pm. You may collect your child(ren) at 12pm from the Valderama Drive entrance only.
Rototuna Sports Exchange
Today was our annual sports exchange with Rototuna Junior High School. Students arrived mid-morning from Hamilton for a day of friendly competition in basketball, football, netball, hockey, table tennis, and chess. MHJC performed incredibly well across a number of sports and all students had a great day! We are already looking forward to 2024.
New Zealand Distance Ride Championship
Claudene Prasad (7F2) competed in the New Zealand Distance Ride Championship in Rangitaiki a few weeks ago. Claudene came first, winning the junior category championship and retaining the championship trophy for the second time in a row.
Her horse Hudy Haxwell won best placed Standardbred. Congratulations Claudene on this incredible achievement.

Air quality continues to improve so students are allowed outside for lunch time but as a precaution will not be outside for DEEP classes.
Update to smoke from fire in Mangere – as at 10.30, 31/5/2023
Air quality has improved so students will be allowed outside for morning tea.
PE classes and OED will stay inside as a precaution.
Fire in Mangere 31/5/23
Just an update that the smoke from the fire has caused us to stop any outside activity until we can reassess air quality at morning tea (10.30) today.

Hwa Chong Student Leaders’ Convention – Day 1
Our Year 10 students had a smooth trip to Singapore and have settled into their accomodation. Here is a photo from their first day at ‘school’.
Festival of Cultural Sharing
On Friday 26 May, our Year 7 students walked down to the Fo Guang Shan Buddhist Temple for the Festival of Cultural Sharing. This is an annual event for all Year 7 students at MHJC and an exciting opportunity for both staff and students to make further connections with our local community.
Samoan Language Week
This Week is Samoan Language Week!
Our Maori and Pasifika Council have made a range of activities for students to take part in through out the week.
From Monday to Thursday there will be quizzes, prizes and short videos. On Friday, we encourage everyone to dress up in traditional Samoan wear.
